This year, our President and CEO, Aaron DeLoach, has recently been given the privilege to serve as a co-chaplain for the U.S. U20 Men’s National Team. As a direct support to the staff and players, he traveled with them to their training camp in Egypt and Spain, and most recently, accompanied them to the U20 World Cup in Chile.

As the chaplain for the group, he has provided spiritual, mental, and emotional support to players through 1-on-1 meetings, daily Bible Studies, and pregame chapels. Aaron shared about his time as the chaplain while away at the World Cup, " Being able to serve the team was a reminder that God is big and he is always at work. Seeing players with a hunger for Jesus was energizing for me. The response from players wanting to learn and grow in their faith was larger than any other team I have served. Pretty amazing to see 15 of the 21 boys engaged in chapel each day of the tournament." Being able to offer chapel each day contributed to the amazing relationships that were built between the players and with Aaron.

The team had immense success in the tournament, going on to earn 5th place, while also winning the award of FIFA Fair Play Team, an award that FIFA gives in recognition of exemplary behavior and promotes the spirit of fair play and compassion. Each seed planted with these top level players makes a difference, and it showed on the field as they were recognized for both their sporting and character quality.

Chaplaincy is part of the outreach we provide to pro players, and as founding members of the Pro Soccer Chaplains Association (PSCA), we help provide chaplaincy to over 120 men’s and women’s pro teams in the states. This form of outreach furthers our mission to make an eternal impact on the soccer culture everywhere, which includes those playing at the pro, youth, and grassroots levels.
