Over the past six years, Impact City FC has sent coaches and players on multiple missions trips to countries around the world. Coaches and players from St. Louis, South Florida, Salt Lake City, Dallas, and more have ventured to places like Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Argentina. We recognize that soccer is a universal language, a global game, and even more popular in countries around the world than in the United States. For this reason, we’ve chosen to utilize the game of soccer as a tool to share the gospel – the most unifying message for all people – the Good News of Jesus Christ.

A little over a year ago, we sent our U15 boys team from Charleston, South Carolina on a missions experience to Barcelona, Spain. We played football, saw the country, and shared the gospel with several communities in the greater Barcelona area. We partnered with the local YWAM (Youth With A Mission) ministry and a local church in downtown Barcelona to come alongside their already existing ministries and continue to serve them and the people of Barcelona.

We also played three competitive matches against a variety of competitors throughout Catalonia, Spain. Each game had it’s own challenges, but we concluded each match by sharing the gospel with the opposing teams, an opportunity only afforded to us by the beautiful game of soccer. These experiences, and many others, allowed our players to see a new culture, be drawn out of their comfort zone, and ultimately share the life-transforming message of Jesus Christ. This experience epitomizes the goal of our player journey, to be able to hear God's word throughout the year, but then to go and share it with others who may have never heard the good news.

Nic lines, the Charleston Director of Coaching who led the trip and had the following to say about the impact of the trip, “Taking our U15 boys to Barcelona wasn’t just about soccer—it was about shaping young men, embracing a new culture, and living out our faith together. From the daily devotions and mission work to the matches we played, this trip will stay with us for years to come because of the way God moved in our hearts.”

One of the members of our headquarters staff, Luke Marchesani, also traveled with the group and was amazed by the growth he saw in the players and how their courage impacted the people of Spain, saying, “It’s safe to say that this trip was not only life-changing for the players involved, but also for those that we were able to minister to as a group."
